Bucktown (1975) from Tuna

Bucktown (1975) is a 3rd rate blacksploitation film that does have a least one of the necessary ingredients -- Pam Grier's breasts (or at least one of them). The story is roughly based on the passage in the bible where a devil is cast out, but worse ones enter. Fred WIlliamson returns to Bucktown to bury his brother, only to find that his brother was murdered, and that Bucktown is a din of iniquity exploiting brothers and sisters, while the white cops skim all of the profits.

He brings in some hoodlum friends, who make short work of the cops, but then take over the exploitation of the town. It is only a matter of time before Fred and his new squeeze Grier open up a can of whup-ass on the bad guys.

NUDITY REPORT

Pam Grier's breasts are shown in good light. There is breast exposure from several unknown hookers and strippers.
Scoop's comments:

Did you guys know that one of our b-movie favorites, Fred "The Hammer" Williamson, was once one of the co-hosts on Monday Night Football? He only lasted a few games, not even one full season. Here's the history of the show's early years:

Fall- Winter of ...  Play-by-play Color  Analysis/Humor
Year 1, 1971 Keith Jackson Don Meredith Howard Cosell
Year 2, 1972 Frank Gifford Don Meredith Howard Cosell
Year 3, 1973 Frank Gifford Don Meredith Howard Cosell
Year 4, 1974 Frank Gifford
  • Fred Williamson
  • Alex Karras
Howard Cosell
Year 5, 1975 Frank Gifford Alex Karras Howard Cosell
Year 6, 1976 Frank Gifford Alex Karras Howard Cosell
Year 7, 1977 Frank Gifford Don Meredith Howard Cosell
Year 8, 1978 Frank Gifford Don Meredith Howard Cosell

DVD info from Amazon.

  • Widescreen anamorphic, 1.85:1

  • no meaningful features

So you see, in the first eight years of the show, the color slot was handled by Karras and Dandy Don, except for a few shows done by "The Hammer".

Hammer had to choose between his film career and his football job, so he left Howard and Giff in October 1974, just about in time to do Bucktown.

The Critics Vote

  • Maltin 1.5/4

The People Vote ...

  • With their votes ... IMDB summary: IMDb voters score it 5.7
IMDb guideline: 7.5 usually indicates a level of excellence, about like three and a half stars from the critics. 6.0 usually indicates lukewarm watchability, about like two and a half stars from the critics. The fives are generally not worthwhile unless they are really your kind of material, about like two stars from the critics. Films under five are generally awful even if you like that kind of film, equivalent to about one and a half stars from the critics or less, depending on just how far below five the rating is.

My own guideline: A means the movie is so good it will appeal to you even if you hate the genre. B means the movie is not good enough to win you over if you hate the genre, but is good enough to do so if you have an open mind about this type of film. C means it will only appeal to genre addicts, and has no crossover appeal. D means you'll hate it even if you like the genre. E means that you'll hate it even if you love the genre. F means that the film is not only unappealing across-the-board, but technically inept as well.

Based on this description, this film is a C. OK genre fare.
