Skin in the 50s (2007) will be the next release from Secret Key, and is a
two-disk set.
Disk one contains a 1956 grindhouse feature called The Flesh Merchant. A young
girl leaves home to follow her big sister into the glamorous life of a Hollywood
model that she imagines her sister is enjoying. The truth is that sis is a
hooker, and the younger sib soon finds herself trapped into the same line of
work. This particular version of the film is not the original. Rather, it has
been spiced up with nudity probably borrowed from loops.
Speaking of which, the second disk is full of porno loops from the 50s,
featuring nudity and some modest girl/girl. Together, they give a good idea of
the state of porn in cinema in the 50s, and a hint of what will follow in the
60s and 70s.
The two female leads in The Flesh Merchant, Joy Reynolds and Geri Moffatt,
give surpisingly strong performances.
