Hilary Swank in "Million Dollar Baby"
This is the second nomination for Swank. She sure has come a long way since the direct-to-vid flick "The Next Karate Kid"!
In 2000 she was nominated for, and won her first Oscar for "Boys Don't Cry". The movie was based on the real life story of Teena Brandon, a woman who chose to live her life as a man, and was eventually murdered by folks that found out and didn't exactly approve.

This is Bening's third nomination. Her first was in 1991 for her supporting role in "The Grifters". In 200O she was up for Best Actress for her performance in "American Beauty".

Mrs. Warren Beatty has shown some great skin on film. In one of her early films, 1989's "Valmont", she bared a bit of her bum and ended up in soaking wet and see-thru outfit.
If you're a Bening fan, "Valmont" is simply the best version of the 'Dangerous Liasons' adaptations. However, the best Bening nudity can be found in "The Grifters", which features all the goods!

Imelda Staunton in "Vera Drake"
Unless you know all the names in the cast of the excellent family movie "Chicken Run", you probably haven't heard of this UK actress. Not too worry, the Academy knows who she is!
For her performance in "Vera Drake", Staunton was also nominated for a Golden globe and a SAG award. In addition, she has already won the BAFTA, the British Independent Film Award and at least 8 other Best Actress awards from assorted Film Critic associations!

Kate Winslet in
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"
Around the Scoopy Water cooler, this was a movie that deserved a few more Oscar nominations...and not for stuff like 'best gaffer' or 'best hair styling'!
In his review, Scoop Sr. made the following comment...
"By the time Oscar nominations roll along, the Academy seems to forget about the films released in February and March. That's a shame, because Eternal Sunshine is a terrific movie, and would make a credible and creditable Oscar candidate.
Seems like he hit a bullseye. 2 nominations is nothing to sneeze at, but I think "Eternal Sunshine..." deserved a few more. I would have like to have seen it up for Best Editing and/or Best Direction. Here's why...the basic theme of the film is simple, but the way Michel Gondry tells the story is brilliant. There are twists and turns that slowly reveal more and more as the movie progresses. While at times it may seem surreal and weird, once everything is revealed, all the twists and turns make perfect sense. Plus his attention to detail is amazing. Watch this movie 3 or 4 times and you'll pick up new, cool little tidbits each time.

Kate didn't show anything in "Eternal Sunshine...", however, she is still the go-to girl for A-list skin. If you need a great actress that will take her clothes off (sometimes when she's not in the best of shape) Kate is it!
Kate's first screen nudity came at the age of 18 in "Heavenly Creatures" (1994), directed by "Lord of the Rings" guru Peter Jackson. Next was 1996's "Jude". Then there was the movie with the boat. You know, the one with the with the iceberg and the 'king of the world' thing.
The nudity kept on coming after that with "Hideous Kinky" (1998), "Holy Smoke" (1999), "Quills" (2000) and most recently showing all 3 B's in 2001's "Iris"

So far Cate has shown very little skin on film. In "Elizabeth" she briefly bared her breasts. In the 2001, Kevin Spacey movie "The Shipping News", Blanchett fans got to see her in a thong.

Laura Linney in
"Kinsey"
This is Linney's second Oscar nod. The first time around it was a Best Actress nomination for her performance in "You Can Count on Me".
"Kinsey" is the biopic about Dr. Alfred Kinsey, a scientist who literally wrote the book on human sexuality. Naturally it caused serious controversy at the time (the late 40's-early 50's). The movie is not immensely entertaining, although it is very funny in spots. However, the script is solid, and it does teach about an odd, fascinating man and his ground-breaking work in a completely painless, easy-to-digest format. It's not be as great as some critics might lead you to believe, but it is still mighty good.

In the past 5 years, Linney seems to have moved into the Kate Winslet department. If you're a producer looking for a strong female lead who can deliver Oscar worthy acting and is willing to do nudity, you'll probably want to give her agent a call.
In addition to "Kinsey", since 2000 she's made nude appearances in "Maze" (2000), "Further Tales of the City" (2001), "The Life of David Gale" (2003) and "Love Actually" (2003).

Virginia Madsen in "Sideways"
Congrats to Madsen for wwiningthe Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress for "Sideways"!
This is the first Oscar nomination for Madsen after 20+ years 55 movies! Some of her choices haven't been the best during her career, but even if the script has been a little on the stinky side, you can always count on her to give a solid performance. It's nice to see such a hardworking performer finally get an invite to the big game.

She's kept her clothes on since becoming a parent, but from 1983 to 1992 she showed off her very impressive chest (and then some) in 6 movies.
Her busty debut in "Class" earned her the #6 spot in our Best Nude Film Debuts of the 80s poll, and tthankfullyshe didn't stop there. She later went on to do nude scenes in "Creator", "Gotham", "The Hot Spot", "Becoming Collette" and "Candyman".

Sophie Okonedo in "Hotel Rwanda"
She seems to have come out of nowhere, but in reality this UK born actress has been working on both sides of the pond since the early 90's.
Yanks may recognize her from the Jim Carrey movie "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls". Later this year she'll be co-starring with Charlize Theron in the Sci-Fi movie "Aeon Flux".

Natalie Portman in "Closer"
With her impressive screen debut at age 13 in the 1994 movie "The Professional", I'm sure most film buffs expected that she'd be nominated eventually.
Personally I think her performance in "Garden State" was far superior to her work in "Closer", but at least she's getting back to projects that prove she can act. Sure "Star Wars" was great for her career, but let's face it, we've all seen high school plays with better acting.

None. However, in "Closer" she plays a scantily clad stripper who shows plenty of excellent thong views.
